LANTERN FESTIVAL SHANGHAI

The Chinese name for this holiday is Yuanxiao Jie and marks the end of winter. A display of hand-crafted red lanterns swing from the grounds an YuYuan gardens and revelers flock to enjoy the sweet dumplings. Doors are closed early because overcrowding can occur: this event is not for the claustrophobic.

EYEBAR

There are light touches of Hong Kong's maritime past here: the "eye" of the bar referring to the kind that was painted on the prow of old Chinese junks while it is a place that embraces the high energy of modern city life.

Once a former pawn shop, Pawn is now a bar and restaurant. My favorite aspect is the outdoor seating with a great view of the streets of Wan Chai. Grab a drink and people watching here is one of my favorite ways to relax.
